Pastoral Care

I work within natural environments to study how art in ‘non-art’ spaces communicates, reorganizes, and transmogrifies the landscape. I want to understand what is actually being transmitted, and who is the receiver?

The Changelings is a series of experimental public art installations that are site informed, free, and accessible to all audiences should one find themselves roaming around the vineyards and forests of Villnachern, Switzerland. They contribute to the mysterious and magical nature of the location, and bring awareness to the value of mother earth and all of her children. Unfired clay sculptures of children made entirely of locally sourced earth, clay, and seeds, have been created with care. They are then placed in nature where they interact with the elements, thus encouraging natural disintegration. While watching the natural process of atrophy, the patient viewer will, as time passes, be invited to observe the cycles of life, an acknowledgement that the only constant in life is change; referencing the fragility of childhood and demonstrating the symbolic résumé of the Alchemical Opus— that death is part of nature and always followed by growth.
