Los Angeles based multidisciplinary artist-curator Joanna Grasso has a deep interest in exploring the psyche and alchemical transformation through her practice. The work is often informed by mythology, strong female narratives, archetypes, cultural and religious symbology, as well as traditions, rites, and rituals from around the world that are woven through all cultures and bind us together.
Grasso has collaborated with artists worldwide and some highlights include working with Artist Sarah Sze on her presentation for the Venice Art Biennale (2013), with Conceptual Artist Joseph Kosuth in his Rome Studio, and ongoing experimental creating with Artist Gordana Bezanov and Architect Martin Siegrist of Number_5 GmbH and the Red Earth Society in Zambia, Switzerland, Italy, and Haiti. She has also participated with an international artist collective, lead by artist duo Rosenclaire, between South Africa and Italy, and was an artist in resident for 3 years at the Grand Central Art Center, Santa Ana, CA.
Grasso studied art the Lorenzo de’Medici School of Art in Florence, Italy, then went on earn her BFA in Painting and Drawing from Dominican University of California, San Rafael, and MFA in Exhibition Design and Certificate in Museum Studies from California State University, Fullerton where she was awarded the Leo Freedman scholarship.
